Genderbitch Lite: Now With More Rambling!: In case anyone missed what I eventually figured with birth rape...
The entire reason why rape is used is to make it clear that something intensely fucked up just happened and so it is the most powerful term to many survivors. And I think the needs of the survivors are the most important ones here, don’t you?

From my perspective, understanding the historical use of language and anticipating (as much as possible) the responses of those whom you are attempting to communicate with – which can be a range of individuals and communities – can be good information for activists and advocates in effectively changing (hopefully eradicating!) rape culture.
I don’t see this as silencing or policing survivors, since none of this insists that people don’t have a “right” or that it’s not “appropriate” to use the language of rape to talk about any person’s experience. I actually think it helps us draw strategically on a wider pool of language and cultural discourses available to us.
