Inevitable complications are not lost on the poly community, which is already well-versed in the difficulties that can arise from having multiple partners. A blogger at The Polyamorous Misanthrope writes, “Do you have any idea what a horror and a tangle property rights will become with a plural marriage in a community property state? What will it do to inheritance law? What rights do children have in such a marriage?” That’s not to mention issues surrounding critical medical decisions that have to be made on behalf of a partner: “Do you think that every spouse will be on the same page in a plural marriage directing the care should one of the spice become medically incapacitated? The more fool you! Even in a ‘good’ relationship, people will disagree and disagree profoundly in times of emotional strife.”
