transformativeworks:

stephandersonmusic:

For the last decade, fanworks have directed my life in ways I had never imagined. It’s important that we recognize how our fandoms have developed over the years and impacted our lives. Here’s my story, what’s yours?

Why is this so important to talk about? http://fanworksarefairuse.org

Thanks to thehpalliance for asking me to tell my side of the story!

One of the biggest barriers than fandom has broken is the barrier of isolation. The community of fandom has connected people and allowed them to take their lives and careers in directions most people weren’t aware existed a decade ago. The story in this video is part of the Fanworks Are Fair Use Project put on by the Harry Potter Alliance. The OTW recently joined this project, and we’ve put out a call to ask people to share their own stories of fandom using the hashtag #FanWorksTaughtMe. So share your stories and help celebrate everything that the fannish community has helped achieve.
