One of the subtler weapons of the marriage-equality movement is how much we like going to weddings. It’s much better than wallowing in revulsion. If you are, say, in love, and want to get married to a person of your own gender, you can do so, as of Tuesday, in any of nineteen states. But that is not the only interesting number: there are six more states where a lower-court ruling legalizing marriage has been stayed pending an appeal. That adds up to twenty-five—half of fifty. The District of Columbia may count as a tie-breaker, on the loving side.
